Dee Lippingwell


5/11/24 - Veteran concert photographer Dee Lippingwell passed away Thursday at age 78. In addition to over 50 years of photographing music stars, she took numerous photos of local broadcasters. 5/10/24 - the B.C. Association of Broadcasters (BCAB) has awarded its Broadcast Performer of the Year to longtime The Zone CJZN-FM 91.3 Victoria morning show duo of Jason Lamb and Dylan Willows. Willows stepped away from the station in March following a recurrence of a rare ocular cancer he battled 20 years ago. Tchadas Leo of CHEK-TV Victoria, who hosts the station’s first-ever podcast Our Native Land, was named the Broadcast Performer of Tomorrow.

5/09/24 (Updated) - Multicultural radio trailblazer Shushma Datt has been named the B.C. Association of Broadcasters (BCAB) Broadcaster of the Year. Among her many achievements, she launched Spice Radio CJRJ AM 1200 Vancouver in 2005. Datt was also inducted as a member of BCAB’s Half Century Club along with former CKNW AM 980 talk show host Jon McCombConnie Thiessen, Broadcast Dialogue  Laura Brougham, CHEK News

5/09/24 - RPM: Where Radio People Meet held its biannual gathering of Vancouver broadcasters past and present last week. In addition to Jody Vance, Dee Lippingwell, Don Shafer and Larry Hennessey were inducted into the RPM Hall of Fame.

5/09/24 - Angela Valiant, who was released from the morning show at SONiC CKKS-FM 104.9 Vancouver last month, has posted a farewell to listeners. Rogers Radio told Daily Hive that Alex Carr will host the morning show in the interim and that news about the future lineup will be revealed in the coming weeks.  Amir Ali, Daily Hive

5/07/24 - After 16 years as a print reporter, Katie DeRosa is moving into broadcasting. She reported for the  Victoria Times Colonist for 15-1/2 years and has been with the Vancouver Sun and Province for the last three. DeRosa starts as the new provincial affairs reporter with CBC Vancouver on May 27.  X Posting

5/06/24 - The Get Connected technology radio show hosted by Mike Agerbo has been cancelled by CKNW AM 980 Vancouver. The 10-11 a.m. Saturday show ran for two decades. Agerbo, who is the CEO & Executive Producer of GetConnected Media, indicates the station wants paid/ infomercial slots on the weekend.

5/05/24 - Veteran Vancouver sportscaster Farhan Lalji is being inducted into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame. He will be officially enshrined as part of the Football Reporters of Canada Grey Cup breakfast in Vancouver this November. In addition to serving as the Vancouver Bureau Reporter for TSN, Lalji has worked on the BC Lions’ radio broadcasts as pre and post-game host during its time on TSN 1040 and as a part time sports reporter/ anchor at CTV VancouverTSN Release

5/05/24 - Former CBC Vancouver freelance cameraman Ray Fitzwalter passed away April 24 following a decade-long battle with Parkinson's disease. His body will be cremated and there will be no service.

5/03/24 - Veteran Vancouver broadcaster Jody Vance has been inducted into the RPM Hall of Fame. The RPM Lunch, which was started by Red Robinson over two decades ago, is a regular lunchtime gathering of radio personalities, and continues to this day following Red's passing on April 1 last year at age 86. Vance has been a prominent local broadcaster since 1988 and currently co-hosts talk show Steele and Vance with Lynda Steele weekly on CHEK-TV Victoria.  X Posting

4/28/24 - Gulf Islands Community Radio has announced that its new station CHIR-FM 107.9 Salt Spring Island will likely be on air in May. It has now completed the link between studio and transmitter tower. The station will operate with a maximum ERP of 850 watts at 219.8 metres EHAAT. A rebroadcaster will operate at 102.1 MHz with a maximum ERP of 18 watts at 635.4 metres EHAAT.  CRTC Info

4/25/24 -The Donnie and Dhali Post Game Show airs for one hour after every Canucks playoff game on CHEK-TV Victoria, with Don Taylor, Rick Dhaliwal and Ryan Henderson showing post-game interviews and analysis. 4/19/24 - Victor Gouchee will be the new Chase Producer on CKNW AM 980 Vancouver starting May 6. The 2023 BCIT Broadcast Journalism graduate has been a producer of live radio shows and sports broadcasts on Sportsnet 650 CISL Vancouver for the past year and has experience as a technical director, shooter/ editor and sideline reporter for Roll.Focus.

4/18/24 - Former Vancouver broadcaster Shirley McQueen is joining ICON Radio CKAY-FM 91.7 Gibsons. She was a morning swing host at Rock 101 CFMI-FM 101.1 Vancouver from 1998-2002.

4/18/24 - SONiC CKKS-FM 104.9 Vancouver has dropped Angela Valiant from its morning show, with her name deleted from its website. In addition, content producer Andrew Berridge has announced his departure from the station to join 1-800-GOT-JUNK as a social media specialist.  LinkedIn Posting

4/10/24 - Long time Vancouver sportscaster Joey Kenward has some good news. He underwent a cell transplant last month, followed by further treatments to treat leukemia, and was able to return home for Easter. 4/05/24 - Former B.C. Lieutenant-Governor Iona Campagnolo, who was also a local broadcaster, has died at age 91. Among her numerous achievements, she hosted One of a Kind on CBC Television Vancouver from 1980-82. 4/03/24 - Vancouver radio host Leslie Stein has joined the staff at the newly branded OV 103.9 CKOV-FM Kelowna, which was recently acquired by Pattison Media. She co-hosts mornings with Kelowna Content Director Glenn Hicks. 4/03/24 - Former CBC Vancouver staffer Beverley Wowchuk passed away March 8th at age 76. She was a costume designer for the Beachcombers TV series for 10 years before leaving the Corporation to work in the TV and film industry, specializing in period movies as well as starting a period costume rental business. A Celebration of Life is scheduled for April 16 at the Burnaby Mountain Golf Clubhouse.  Sun/ Province Obituary
